North Cornwall has lots to offer for a romantic weekend away, with some incredible stays on the table.
Romantic weekends in Cornwall
As we settle into 2023, many of us are looking ahead to creating special memories with one another. With February and Valentine’s day drawing closer, what could be better than a weekend away with the one you love? And where better than north Cornwall?
Our selection of properties has something for every couple. Think glasses of fizz with sea views, cosy fires, and comfy beds in which to rest after your day's adventure.
Romantic Cornish beaches
One of our favourite nearby beaches is Summerleaze, only five minutes from the centre of Bude. With handy parking next to the dunes, this sheltered beach is popular with swimmers. It's also a lovely stretch for a walk. Imagine walking hand in hand in the cool February breeze, with the sea as your backdrop.
Widemouth Bay is another favourite. Accessible via the South West Coast Path, it lies three miles south of Bude. Its stretch of sand is great for romantic walks, with viewing areas providing amazing coastal vistas.
For the more adventurous, Bossiney Cove is a beautiful hidden gem, concealed by the water at high tide. This small sandy beach is accessible via a footpath over farmland and then some steep steps. The route is only suitable for those with a hand to hold. An adventurous spirit is also advisable! While you're there, see if you can spot Elephant Rock – hidden in the cliff face from the beach.
Romantic walks in Cornwall
If you’ve found yourself at Widemouth Bay, why not take the six-mile coastal walk to Crackington Haven? Another one for adventurous souls, expect steep valleys, rolling hills and striking inclines. All with views that stretch for miles.
For a shorter, easier jaunt, make the four-mile walk from Boscastle to the Valency Valley. A picturesque walk that features the harbour, woodland, a meandering river and a pretty church nestled in the trees.
For a mix of coast and country, we recommend the circular route from Sandymouth to Duckpool and Stowe Wood. From Sandymouth, walk inland through a wooded valley before circling back to your car.
Romantic restaurants in Cornwall
For an evening to remember, Potters in Bude offers seasonal tasting menus and a la carte options. It even has a spot on the Michelin Guide, meaning you won’t be disappointed. With fresh flavours all year round, it's perfect for an intimate evening for two.
For something more casual, head to the Olive Tree coffee house, bar and bistro. A canal-facing terrace ensures dinner with a view, while the menu has something for every mood. With Summerleaze Beach a mere stone’s throw from the doorstep, this is waterside dining at its best.
For tapas, steak and seafood, head to 2 Belle Vue Avenue. This ivy-clad establishment provides the perfect venue for intimate moments.
The north coast has so much to offer couples seeking a romantic weekend away. It provides a world of romance and magic that feels far from the stress of daily life. Our favourite romantic stays
A gentle stroll from the beautiful Crooklets Bay, Down House is a place for those who love to stay by the sea. An understated calm flows throughout the house in earth tones and natural stone and wood. Spend time together in the open-plan orangery. Enjoy hours of conversation in front of the rotating woodburner, before slipping into crisp linens.
Be charmed by the warmth and welcome of The Old Manse, emanating Victorian elegance. A holiday here demands nothing more than your presence and a willingness to relax. Charm and tranquillity abound, along with exquisite décor and many original features. Why not re-acquaint with one another with a pre-dinner drink in the drawing room? Or, for a spot of friendly competition, indulge in the playful joy of a board game in front of the crackling fire.
Exuding Edwardian brick-built grandeur, Arden House is a coastal retreat like no other. Snuggle up in front of the open fire, before retiring to the master suite for utter relaxation. You'll love the views, too, extending across the greens of the golf course and the ocean beyond. Just be sure to bring your clubs!
