Gooseham Mill House

Gooseham Mill House is a magical property dating back to the 17th century. A secluded cottage set in the middle of the Devon and Cornwall Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve this is a perfect self-catering retreat for those seeking a truly peaceful, tranquil and traffic-free setting in which to holiday. This historic house has literary connections from the mid 20th century when it was owned by Lady Patricia Russell, wife of Sir Bertrand Russell, and many writers and artists from the Bloomsbury Set visited the property.

Gooseham Mill House is located on the Cornwall/Devon border in a beautiful wooded valley just a mile from the sea. It stands in the middle of the Marsland Nature Reserve, which is well known for its flora and fauna, particularly its 34 species of butterfly. The gentle stream meandering through the garden is the county boundary; start in Cornwall and wander over the footbridge to Devon. Stroll along winding footpaths for a mile and you will find the secluded beaches of Marsland Mouth and Welcombe on the Atlantic Heritage Coast. Please visit www.lifeonmarsland.co.uk for a further selection of photographs showing the stunning location and amazing gardens including its lovingly tended vegetable garden, the produce of which guests are invited to use.

The house has two large double rooms (one ensuite), one twin room and a single room providing spacious bedrooms for up to seven. The cosy sitting room with its original Inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove lends itself to sitting quietly and relaxing. The kitchen is equipped with a Rayburn; the dining area has an antique cherrywood dining table with seating for seven and there is a separate sitting room with piano and sofa. All beautifully furnished with antique furniture the owners have taken great care to ensure this fabulous house is decorated and equipped to the highest standards. With oak beams throughout and flagstone floors many of the original features of the house remain whilst modern appliances ensure 21st century convenience and comfort.

In addition there is a pretty, tiny barley mill equipped with DVD player, board games and bean bags. This space is ideal for slightly older children and teenagers to enjoy themselves without disturbing the peace of the house.

A truly fabulous house in a unique setting, Gooseham Mill House and gardens are full of heritage and charm. A holiday here will be a magical and relaxing luxury experience.
